Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon for the first time. Even as a child, he had big goals. He has now achieved one of them.
With his victory at Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz has entered the history books. The Spaniard not only dethroned last year’s finalist Novak Djokovic, but also won the second Grand Slam title of his career. The 20-year-old was already crowned the winner at the US Open 2022 – also because Djokovic was not allowed to participate due to his vaccination status.
Two Grand Slam titles at such a young age are certainly something to be proud of. But a video that circulated on Twitter after the 20-year-old’s Wimbledon victory proves that the world number one has already set his sights high at a young age.
First of two dreams come true
The French account “Tennis Legend” posted a 15-second clip on the short message service in which Alcaraz can be seen as a 12-year-old – and is asked several questions.
Alcaraz is wearing a dark blue shirt, with the Spanish flag emblazoned on his chest. What is his dream when he turns professional one day, the unidentifiable voice off-camera wants to know from Alcaraz. “To win Roland-Garros and Wimbledon,” is the little boy’s answer. A dream he was able to partially fulfil on this Sunday.

The answer to the question about his idol also fits the triumph at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Alcaraz does not name clay court king Rafael Nadal, who is also Spanish, but tennis legend Roger Federer, an absolute grass court specialist during his career.
And by winning in London, Alcaraz was able to please his former idol, who has since retired. Because Djokovic’s defeat means that the Swiss remains the sole record holder at Wimbledon with eight triumphs, while the Serb still stands at seven titles.
Alcaraz has yet to triumph on clay at the French Open. A dream, however, that is anything but impossible to fulfil. Sunday’s victory made that more than clear.
