Alba Berlin push Chemnitz out of fifth place

Alba Berlin claimed a dominant 84:58 (45:26) away win at Jobstairs Giessen 46ers in the Basketball Bundesliga. The Berliners celebrated their fifth win in a row in the BBL on Sunday, and the reigning champions are unbeaten in ten games across the competition.

The Berliners needed some time to get going against Giessen’s zone defence, but were defensively compact themselves, thus coming up with some quick attacks and were ahead 23:14 at the quarter break. At half-time, the guests extended their lead to 45:26, and with an 11:0 start to the second half, the Berliners lived up to their role as favourites there as well.

With their 15th win of the season, Berlin moved up one place in the table and pushed the Niners Chemnitz out of fifth place, but they still have some games to make up for. The Chemnitz team was beaten 87-92 (38-47) by the EWE Baskets Oldenburg away from home. In the closing seconds, Oldenburg made their seventh win of the season at the free-throw line.

In the duel of two relegation candidates, the Syntainics MBC from Weißenfels won 81:75 (35:46) against the Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt. Jamel Morris was the match-winner for Weissenfels with six points in the final minute. The MBC remain 14th after their eighth win of the season, while Frankfurt are still second to last.
