Barcelona’s Sergio Aguero must rest for the next three months. The Argentine was substituted early against Alaves on Saturday with heart problems.
In their first competitive game since the sacking of Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman, the Catalans were keen to show there was more to them than what they had shown so far this season. An asset in the lively opening phase against Deportivo: Sergio Aguero.
But only until the 41st minute, when the 33-year-old attacking player grabbed his chest, then his neck, and then lay on the ground visibly dazed. He was treated on the pitch for a few minutes and then substituted for Philippe Coutinho. With heart problems, Aguero was taken away to hospital later on Sunday night for a thorough examination.
On Monday evening, Barça announced that Aguero would have to take a break for the next three months – then we will see how the treatments will affect him. At least Aguero came forward via Twitter on Monday evening and announced that he was doing well and looking forward to the recovery process. In view of this long period of absence, he will definitely miss the second duel with FC Bayern in the top flight. On matchday 6 of the group stage, the Munich side will host FC Barcelona (8 December), the first encounter in this CL season without Aguero’s involvement 3-0 to the Nagelsmann eleven.
A season almost to forget
The loss of the experienced attacking player is a further setback for the Blaugrana, who are already stretched in terms of personnel. The season of the Catalans, currently in ninth place and under pressure in the Champions League group with FC Bayern, Benfica and Kiev as the third-placed team, is not under a good star
