Charles Aranguiz (32) will not be available to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the start of the second half of the season. The Chilean has injured his calf again
New Year’s scare for Bayer 04 Leverkusen: midfielder Charles Aranguiz (32) injured his calf muscle so severely during an individual session over Christmas that he will have to take a break for several weeks. The Leverkusen team does not expect the Chilean to return until the end of January after an intensive examination of the injury. Aranguiz will complete his rehab in Leverkusen. In autumn, the Chilean had to take more than a month off due to a calf injury.
After Julian Baumgartlinger (rehabilitation training after knee injury), he is already the second six-man who will not be available for the start of the second half of the season. Whether this will have an effect on the transfer policy remains to be seen.
Sporting director Simon Rolfes recently emphasised that no activities were planned in principle, but added: “We never completely rule out the possibility of something happening. If a situation arises, we don’t close our minds. Basically, we have laid a good foundation for the second half of the season with the squad and are satisfied.” The extent to which Aranguiz’s injury will cause a rethink is now being discussed in Leverkusen.
