After Zverev: Ruud confirmed for tennis tournament in Munich

Munich – After Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, another top ten player has confirmed for the tennis clay court tournament in Munich.

Tournament director Patrick Kühnen announced that Norwegian world number eight Casper Ruud will also serve at the traditional tournament from 23 April to 1 May.

“We are very proud that for the first time since I have been tournament director, we have two from the top ten here,” said the former Davis Cup team boss, who has been in charge at the Aumeister since 2008. Last year’s finalist Jan-Lennard-Struff has also been confirmed as a participant, according to the tournament homepage.

Kühnen was still cagey about the rest of the field of players. He said he still had three wildcards available. “My goal is that many German players play with us. Also Philipp Kohlschreiber.” The now 38-year-old has won the tournament three times so far and is expected to end his career soon.

After no spectators last year due to the pandemic, the organisers expect a “full house” this time. “We are building up to full capacity, we are planning on full capacity,” said Fabian Tross from MTTC Iphitos.
