After throwing a bottle at Marseille professional Dimitri Payet, Olympique Lyon will be deducted a point in the Ligue 1 standings.
The disciplinary committee of the French league federation LFP decided on the sanction against the club of coach Peter Bosz on Wednesday. The panel also decided to play the make-up game of the match in front of empty stands.
Originally, the match between OL and OM had been scheduled for 21 November. However, in the 5th minute, Marseille’s Dimitri Payet had been hit by a water bottle thrown by a Lyon supporter while taking a corner, and the match was subsequently abandoned.
Second point deduction of the season
For the team around former international Jerome Boateng, the point deduction is another sporting damper. Shortly before the winter break, the club is already only in a disappointing twelfth place.
This is already the second point deduction in the current Ligue 1 season. OGC Nice – also after an abandoned match against Marseille – had already been deducted two points, one of which was suspended.
