Nico Müller and Abt-Cupra are going their separate ways after the 2023/24 Formula E season: the Swiss driver has decided to take on a new, as yet unknown challenge
The finale of the 2023/24 Formula E season will take place next weekend (July 20/21) at the ExCeL site in London. For Abt-Cupra and Nico Müller, the two races will be a farewell tour: the Swiss driver has decided to take on a new motorsport challenge and leave the team.’
“It’s a very special weekend for me,” says Müller. “On the one hand, of course, I’m looking forward to the location, track and fans. But on the other hand, I also feel nostalgia and a lot of gratitude after two years in this team. It was an extremely challenging time, but it also brought us closer together.”
“We’ve always pulled together and I’m sure we’ll do the same together one last time in London,” hopes the Swiss, who is in 14th place in the overall standings ahead of the season finale in London. “We want to give it our all once again with the whole team, enjoy the days and try to achieve two good results.”
“Our wish was to keep Nico in the team and to be successful with him again,” admits Abt Managing Director and Team Principal Thomas Biermaier. “Now we have to accept his decision and wish him all the very best for the future. “
Nico Müller has been driving for Abt since 2016
Müller and Abt have been working together for a long time: the Swiss driver raced for Abt in the DTM from 2016 to 2020, finishing runner-up twice during this time. At the start of the 2023 season, he switched to the Formula E team, where Müller achieved his best result with a fourth place in Misano.
“On behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank Nico for his commitment and dedication,” says Biermaier. “Of course, we would all have wished for more success, but he has always led the way and performed strongly, even in these difficult times. Nico will remain part of the Abt family and will always be very welcome here.”
Which challenge Müller has decided to take on is just as open as the question of who will take over the Swiss driver’s vacant cockpit in the coming season. In addition to his involvement in Formula E, Müller also drives for Peugeot in the World Endurance Championship.
