Nico Müller will leave the Peugeot program in the World Endurance Championship at the end of this season – The Swiss driver’s successor has already been confirmed
Just two days ago, it was announced that Nico Müller would be leaving Abt-Cupra at the end of the current 2024 Formula E season. And now Müller’s WEC employer Peugeot has also announced that they will go their separate ways after the end of the season. Müller has decided on a new challenge for the future, but has not yet announced it
In the WEC, Müller is driving his second full season in the Peugeot works team in the hypercar class. He made his debut in the team at the 2022 season finale in Bahrain. And that is where the collaboration will come to an end two years later.
While the Formula E season finale is already on the program this weekend in London, the WEC season will continue for another three months, namely until the Bahrain 8 Hours on November 2. Müller’s best result for Peugeot so far was P4 on his debut.
Peugeot announced on social media: “It was a wild ride that is not over yet. But at the end of the season, our favorite Swiss driver will leave the Peugeot team to write a new chapter in his racing career. Thank you, grazie, merci Nico for the hard work and the good vibes!!!
Müller himself shared the post on his own social media account and added the words: “Merci team. Let’s go after the trophy. We still have three chances.” He is alluding to the three remaining races on the 2024 WEC calendar. Apart from the eight-hour season finale in Bahrain, these are the 6-hour races at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin (USA) and at Fuji Speedway in Japan.

While Nico Müller’s sporting future has not yet been officially announced and his successor in the Abt-Cupra Formula E team has not yet been announced either, Peugeot has clarified the succession issue directly. Malthe Jakobsen will take the Swiss driver’s place in the two-car team from France for the 2025 WEC season
Jakobsen is currently the official replacement driver in the Peugeot program. He has driven the 9X8 in both the rookie test in Bahrain 2022 and the rookie test in Bahrain 2023. Jakobsen also has the LMP3 title win in the 2022 season of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and the title win in the 2023/24 Asian Le Mans Series. The 20-year-old Dane currently races for Cool Racing in the ELMS.
