After his girlfriend went public with serious allegations, Manchester United have suspended Mason Greenwood for the time being. The attacker was also arrested on Sunday.
The 20-year-old had posted a video on Instagram on Sunday morning showing her with a bleeding wound on her face and several bruises. Along with this, she posted an audio recording of a man threatening her with violence.
“For anyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood is doing to me right now,” she wrote on the post, which was deleted a short time later. The relevant Manchester police authority promptly investigated and arrested the attacker before the end of Sunday.
In a statement, ManUnited had initially said it was aware of the images and allegations and did not condone violence in any form. In the early hours of Sunday evening, coach Ralf Rangnick and his record-breaking team announced that Greenwood would not return to training or the pitch “until further notice”.
The 20-year-old winger, who made his national team debut in 2020 at the age of 18, has scored five times in 18 Premier League appearances this season.
