Liverpool FC will retain another big name beyond the summer. Following Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk has also extended his contract with the Reds by two years.
Liverpool FC’s squad for the coming season is slowly taking shape. For a long time, it was unclear whether the Reds would extend the expiring contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract also expires in the summer, but the Englishman continues to flirt with a move to Real Madrid.
Liverpool had already secured Salah, who is having an absolutely fabulous season and extended his contract at Anfield Road for another two years. Six days later, van Dijk followed suit, with the Dutchman also staying with the Reds until 2027. “I’m very happy, very proud. There are so many emotions going through my head right now when I talk about it,” said the center back.
He continued: “It was always Liverpool. That was the case. It was always in my mind, it was always the plan and it was always Liverpool. There was no doubt in my mind that this is the right place for me and my family. I belong to Liverpool. Someone recently called me an adopted Scouser – I’m really proud to hear something like that, it makes me feel great.”
The 33-year-old has been wearing the LFC jersey since 2018 and developed into a world-class center back under former coach Jürgen Klopp. In 2018/19, the 33-year-old won the Champions League with Liverpool, and a year later he won the English Premier League, which is likely to be repeated this season. Van Dijk also won the Club World Cup (2020), the UEFA Super Cup (2019/20), the FA Cup (2022/23), and two League Cups (2022, 2024) with LFC.
