Fc Ingolstadt narrowly missed out on the leap to the top of the table, but are second after the 3-0 win over Dynamo Dresden. Even if it’s only the second-round table that coach Rüdiger Rehm was talking about beforehand, the victory still sparks hope.
After the first win under his direction, Rehm was naturally satisfied and was particularly pleased with the defensive performance: “We allowed virtually nothing at the back. “ And it also worked up front this time, three goals in one game are a novelty this season.
Rehm is working on the basics
He had been “working on basic themes” with his team during the week, the FCI coach said. “Of course, a quick goal like that plays into your cards and then also has the effect that you see it’s working.” Leading scorer Nico Antonitsch, who scored after just a few seconds.
Of course the 43-year-old knows, just like captain Stefan Kutschke, that there is a “long way to go” until the hoped-for relegation. “We know that we have to improve quite a lot.” The team has to realise what’s important: “Be wide awake from the start, be aggressive, defend together and attack.”
Of course, during the winter break, the team will take a critical look at the still dramatic situation – FCI is seven points behind the relegation zone and ten points behind the safety zone – and draw conclusions for the rest of the season, Rehm said. After the second win of the season, however, his charges should first “rejoice, recover and take a deep breath” – also when looking at the second-round table.
