The renewed tournament victory at Roland Garros also has consequences for Rafael Nadal in the ATP rankings – and there will soon be some other changes in the world rankings as well.
Rafael Nadal has moved up to fourth place in the world tennis rankings with his 14th triumph at the French Open. The 36-year-old moved up one place with his 22nd Grand Slam title overall, according to the rankings published on Monday. The world’s number one remains Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who was eliminated by Nadal in the quarter-finals in Paris.
However, the Serb will have to relinquish his top position next week when he loses his points from last year’s Paris title. Then the Russian Daniil Medvedev will take over first place again. Alexander Zverev, who is currently ranked number three, will then move up to number two for the first time in his career. However, the Olympic champion will have to take a longer break due to his serious foot injury.
In the women’s singles, Poland’s Iga Swiatek continues to hold a commanding lead after her victory in Paris. Jule Niemeier from Dortmund moved up five places with her first WTA title in Croatia and is now 97th in the top 100. The best German is Angelique Kerber in 18th place.
