After Neuhaus’ criticism: Hütter announces talks

Florian Neuhaus’ criticism of his own club has made waves. Now Gladbach’s coach Adi Hütter has spoken out about it once again.

Neuhaus had been substituted early in the recent Bundesliga match due to Nico Elvedi’s injury and scored in the 1-1 draw in Mainz to give Gladbach an interim lead. His statements about his situation after the game caused some turmoil among the Foals. “I would perhaps also have wished for more backing from the club. But that’s probably wishful thinking in professional football,” said the 24-year-old, who was last given a start in the 0:1 loss at Augsburg on matchday 5.

Coach Adi Hütter reacted with surprise: “I’m not the club, I’m the coach, and there’s also a performance principle.” The fact that the situation is new and different for Neuhaus “is part of the development of a very good player”.

Currently Neuhaus is with the DFB team, against Liechtenstein (9:0) he was substituted at the break and set up Thomas Müller’s 6:0 in the meantime.

There are a few questions for Hütter

On his return, Hütter will ask Neuhaus to talk. “Of course he has to stay calm and train, he won’t have any other choice “, the coach told the “Westdeutsche Zeitung”. But one could already discuss what he said, he added. “What does that mean? Who did he mean? But such things are part of it, we will discuss it internally when he comes back,” Hütter said.

Hütter admitted once again that the situation for Neuhaus, still a regular under Hütter’s predecessor Marco Rose, was “not entirely easy”. But the midfielder’s motto must be: “Train, march and perform. Full stop. Out.” After the international break, the Foals face a challenge against promoted Greuther Fürth on Saturday, 20 November.
