After more than two years: Tennis star about to make comeback

For years he was plagued by injuries, now Juan Martin del Potro is about to make his return to the tennis circuit. The Argentine will take part in a tournament – with a special personal touch.

Former US Open winner Juan Martin del Potro is about to make his return to the tennis court after two and a half years. The 33-year-old announced his comeback on the ATP Tour for next week’s home leg of the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. The organisers confirmed the participation of the former world-class player with a wildcard.

Del Potro suffered a fractured kneecap at the ATP grass-court tournament in the London suburb of Queens in the summer of 2019 and has not appeared in an official match since. The South American had already been out of action for a long time the previous autumn due to a serious knee injury. Del Potro later had to undergo several operations on his wrist.

Del Potro has won 22 tournaments in his career. The former world number three celebrated his last title so far in 2018 at the ATP Masters in Indian Wells, California.
