After just three competitive matches: Horn leaves RB Salzburg again

Timo Horn is already closing the chapter on RB Salzburg again this summer. This has been official since Friday. Where the 31-year-old will now move to is currently still open

It was difficult for Timo Horn to leave 1. FC Köln last summer, and the long-serving regular keeper made no secret of it. In the first six months thereafter, however, the veteran remained without a new club.

Horn deliberately took his time in choosing his new employer. On January 6, 2024, Horn signed a contract until the end of the season with the then Austrian leaders RB Salzburg. “After 21 years in Cologne, it had to be a club for me that suits me and that I can identify with,” said Horn when signing the contract. Salzburg let stand-in keeper Nico Mantl move to Denmark to Viborg FF in January

Schlager represented in the season finale

Horn wanted to challenge regular keeper Alexander Schlager and “give the coach arguments”. In the end, however, Horn only made three competitive appearances for Salzburg. And that was only because he had to deputize for the injured Schlager.

Horn stood between the posts for 90 minutes in the away games against Rapid Vienna (0:2) and TSV Hartberg (5:1) as well as in the season finale against Linzer ASK (7:1). The defeat in Vienna was particularly painful – it was a preliminary decision in the title fight

First national championship missed

In the end, Horn, who had only won two second division titles with 1. FC Köln in his career, failed to win his first national championship. Sturm Graz held their nerve with a 2-0 home win against Austria Klagenfurt on the final matchday and finished two points ahead of serial champions Salzburg – ten championship titles in a row.

It remains to be seen where the experienced Horn, who was born in Cologne and has 201 Bundesliga and 98 second division appearances to his name, will now move to
