After insults against Narey: 30,000 Euro fine for HSV

Following the racist remarks made by some spectators in the duel between Hamburger SV and Fortuna Düsseldorf, the DFB’s sports court has now pronounced a heavy fine against HSV.

HSV was fined 30,000 euros for “unsportsmanlike conduct by its supporters”, according to the DFB website. The club could use up to 10,000 euros of the fine for safety measures. This would then have to be proven by 31 May 2022.

“During the match against Fortuna Düsseldorf, the Düsseldorf player Khaled Narey was insulted by a small group of spectators from the Hamburg block with ‘monkey noises’ and also called racist names,” it says in the reasons for the ruling. “Such inhuman behaviour grossly violates the DFB’s code of values and will not be tolerated in any way.”

The HSV had already condemned the incidents against its ex-player Narey after they became known. These incidents were unacceptable and had “no place in the Volksparkstadion, but also in our society”. The club emphasised that HSV stands for diversity and that misconduct by individuals does not represent the values of the club. Therefore, the club will “do everything possible to clarify and punish the incidents.
