Earlier than announced by national coach Julian Nagelsmann, Manuel Neuer has joined the national team after an infection and could make his comeback next Monday after a long break
As the DFB announced on Tuesday evening, Manuel Neuer has already arrived at the DFB training camp in Blankenhain in Weimarer Land. Julian Nagelsmann had announced at the press conference the day before that he did not expect Neuer to arrive until Wednesday at the earliest.
The 38-year-old had initially had to miss training due to a stomach bug. If Neuer is able to return to training straight away, he will probably be back in the DFB goal for the first time since the 2022 World Cup next Monday in the friendly against Ukraine in Nuremberg (8.45pm). Neuer suffered a complicated leg fracture after the tournament in Qatar a year and a half ago and had to take months off.
And Neuer also had to postpone his planned comeback in goal for the national team in March due to a muscle injury sustained in training. Nevertheless, Nagelsmann decided early on and before the international matches in France (2:0) and against the Netherlands (2:1), when Marc-André ter Stegen was in goal, to use Neuer as number one.
“If he’s healthy, yes,” said Nagelsmann on Monday, underlining Neuer’s status as a regular keeper. The 117-time international had recently been unfortunate in the league and the Champions League.
Most recently, Nagelsmann only had 15 players at his disposal. The full squad will not be together until next Tuesday after the Champions League final on Saturday
