After DTM retirement: Timo Bernhard at the wheel himself in Malaysia

Porsche legend Timo Bernhard is breaking new ground with Team75 Motorsport following his DTM retirement: This weekend, he will be driving himself again

Following the end of its DTM involvement, Team75 Motorsport (as it is officially known) has broadened its base. As part of a cooperation with the Chinese team Global Phantom Racing (PGR), the three-time Le Mans winner will be back behind the wheel in person this weekend. He last competed in the GTC Race in 2022

The cooperation with the Chinese racing team got off to a strong start at the Bathurst 12 Hours, when Bastian Buus, Jaxon Evans and Joel Eriksson finished fourth in mixed conditions. At one point, they were even on course for a podium finish.

The 12 Hours of Sepang is not part of the GT World Challenge (GTWC) Asia, which Allianz intends to contest in its entirety, but is a preparatory race. The race was a fixture on the Asian racing calendar from 2000 to 2016, but was then discontinued. The race returned in 2023

This is what the Team75 program looks like in detail

In the meantime, there is more information about the team’s involvement in the Porsche Carrera Cup. The team had already announced its participation, but now it is clear that it is focusing on promoting young talent.

Both Robert de Haan and Janne Stiak are only 17 years old. Bernhard was already a Porsche works driver in the year they were born. They are looked after by Bernhard’s sister Jennifer Leising as team principal. Team75 is purely a family affair. Customer racing commitments in the Porsche Sports Cup are also planned.

“Our programs for the 2024 season are very varied and very exciting. I’m particularly looking forward to this because every single team member has put a lot of work into these conditions,” says Bernhard. “The return to the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany with two cars is the cornerstone, the main program.

“In addition, there is the cooperation with Team Phantom Global Racing from China, which brings us many exciting races. Like the recent Bathurst 12 Hours, where we achieved an impressive result of fourth place at the start of this partnership. At the 12 Hours of Sepang, I will even get behind the wheel again myself.”

“In addition, we are planning further starts in classic endurance races together with Phantom Global Racing, which we will announce in due course. We at Phantom Global Racing will accompany and support the entire GT World Challenge Asia with personnel and know-how.”

Team75 will also support PGR in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. “This cooperation is growing and becoming ever closer, we are very confident about this future,” says Timo Bernhard.

The team’s final pillar is individual driver support. “Promoting young talent remains one of our main concerns,” emphasizes the Nürburgring record holder. “We are looking after two Team75 juniors: Daniel Gregor, who we are sending to the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy to continue his training and development there.”

“Then there is Alex Mohr, who is making the leap from karting and will compete in the Junior Touring Car Cup. We will give him the best possible support. That means we already have the next generation of drivers in the starting blocks. Team75 Motorsport will also be increasingly involved in karting in order to identify and promote young talent there too. “
