After the shocking incident in Moto3 at Aragon, Max Biaggi’s team draws the consequences and parts ways with two mechanics
The Moto3 team of Max Biaggi and Peter Öttl has fired the two mechanics who caused controversial scenes in qualifying at the Grand Prix at MotorLand Aragon. In the second part of qualifying, KTM rider Adrian Fernandez was obstructed by two mechanics from the Sterilgarda-Husqvarna team.
The video of the incident went viral and was perceived as a scandal even outside the motorsport world.
The two mechanics involved as Biaggi’s team were still allowed to take part in the two overseas races in Japan and Thailand, as spontaneous replacements were not so easy to come by. For the following races, the main actors of the controversial video were banned. They will not return to the Sterilgarda-Husqvarna team after the ban. Biaggi has confirmed that the two mechanics have been fired.
This is what happened in Moto3 Q2 today. @31AdriFernandez was denied to leave in the good group for the QP time, by another team. Unacceptable. @MotoGP @Max_Racing_Team AragonGP pic.twitter.com/BgfRAMfu2S

“I have personally followed and coordinated the procedure of formal notification of the two members of my team responsible for the incidents against the rider Adrian Fernandez and the Tech3-KTM team,” Biaggi informs.
The mechanics were able to comment on the incident. The comments of those involved did not change Biaggi’s decision. “As a team, we believe that we must completely separate ourselves from those who are guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct and those who have broken the rules and regulations,” explains the Italian.
“Such behaviour cannot and must not go unpunished, even unnoticed. The damage to our name is immeasurable,” the 250 legend is aware.
