After attacking fan: FA charges Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has now been charged by the English FA over an outburst of anger after a Premier League match last season.

On 9 April, Manchester United lost 1-0 at then bottom club Everton, the defeat a major setback in their fight for Champions League football. Cristiano Ronaldo was on the pitch for the entire match and lost his composure for a brief moment after the final whistle.

In a video it looked as if CR7 knocked the mobile phone out of a young fan’s hand. This had caused great outrage. Liverpool police had therefore launched investigations into possible assault and damage to property, but in the end left it at a warning.

Excuse and invitation to the fan

The English FA, meanwhile, took a different approach and charged the 37-year-old with misconduct. The action was inappropriate and/or violent, the FA release said.

The Portuguese had publicly apologised for his outburst shortly after the incident and invited the fan to a Manchester game. “It’s never easy to control your emotions in difficult moments like these we face,” CR7 wrote on Instagram at the time. “Nevertheless, we must always be respectful and patient. “
