After 16 years! Derrick Rose ends his career

A shock in the NBA! Derrick Rose is hanging up his basketball shoes, as the former MVP himself announced on Instagram. The decision follows just days after the surprising departure from the Memphis Grizzlies.

Now it all happened very quickly. Just a few days ago, NBA insider Shams Charania published the news that the Memphis Grizzlies had unexpectedly released Derrick Rose.

According to information from the US sports channel ESPN, the franchise has thus granted the guard’s wish. Rose had only signed a two-year contract in Tennessee last year.

“Knowing that I have given the game everything I can, I am satisfied with my decision,” he said. ”But basketball was just the beginning for me. Now it’s important that I give everything for my family – they deserve it.”

Derrick Rose was born in Chicago, was drafted number one by the Bulls after lottery luck (1.51 percent chance), voted Rookie of the Year and later the youngest MVP in NBA history.

After tearing his cruciate ligament in the 2011/12 playoffs, his career took a downturn, followed by his transfer to the New York Knicks (2016). After that, Rose became a journeyman, playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons and, most recently, Memphis Grizzlies.
