Top Japanese wrestler Mina Shirakawa is permanently transferring from Stardom to AEW. She has already been in the ring with the biggest female stars of WWE rival.
An internationally renowned star wants to take on the USA: Mina Shirakawa is leaving her previous home league Stardom in Japan and signing with WWE rival All Elite Wrestling.
Shirakawa is no stranger to AEW fans: the 37-year-old was most recently involved in the epic story of her Stardom companions “Timeless” Toni Storm and Mariah May – and challenged both of them for the league’s women’s title. Earlier in the year, Shirakawa also had a big match against Mercedes Moné at Wrestle Dynasty in the venerable Tokyo Dome – after which a rematch was hinted at.
Mina Shirakawa aims for US breakthrough at AEW
The former model Shirakawa came late to wrestling in 2018 and has become one of the biggest stars of Stardom over the past five years, holding several titles there, and she has also reigned as women’s champion in the British league Revolution Pro.
After it was leaked during the week that Shirakawa is now moving to America permanently, she herself confirmed her move to AEW on Wednesday, after WWE had previously been an option.
Shirakawa linked the news with an emotional message of thanks: “It is only thanks to the fans who have always believed in me and supported me that I can continue to pursue my dreams and continue my career as a professional wrestler.” She said that her breakthrough in the U.S. had always been her big goal, which she is now tackling.
