Adventurous journey: German basketball players arrive in Bremen

The German national basketball team arrived in Bremen for their World Cup qualifier under difficult conditions. After the victory against Estonia on Thursday, the Germans will face Poland on Sunday

The German national basketball team has had an adventurous journey to Sunday’s World Cup qualifier in Bremen. After Thursday’s away game in Tallinn against Estonia (88:57), the team of national coach Gordon Herbert arrived more than eight hours later than planned in the Hanseatic city only in the night to Saturday.

After a two-hour delay of the flight to Frankfurt/Main and the cancellation of the connecting flight, the team had to wait four hours for their luggage, a statement from the German Basketball Federation (DBB) said on Saturday. As the trains to northern Germany were overcrowded, the German basket players around NBA star Dennis Schröder travelled to Bremen by bus. Initially, the “Bild” had reported.

“Today we will train again. The aim is to get the journey out of our bones,” the DBB statement continued. Germany has already won the preliminary round group D after four victories in a row. In the match against Poland on Sunday, however, they will be aiming for an even better starting position for the second phase starting at the end of August. Finland and Slovenia with star player Luka Doncic will be waiting there in any case.
