That was quick. After just six months, Jordan Henderson leaves Saudi Arabia and joins Ajax Amsterdam
Jordan Henderson moved to Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia in the summer despite much criticism, with the club transferring 14 million to Liverpool FC.
The former Reds captain has apparently had enough of the desert. Among other things, he was reportedly not satisfied with the level of play in the Saudi Professional League. He only made 17 appearances (no goals, four assists) in the star-studded league. Coach Steven Gerrard’s team is currently eighth in the table.
The fact that Henderson is forgoing a lot of money also proves just how much of a hurry he was in. According to reports, he will forgo €20 million net per year to terminate his contract, which runs until 2026. Recently, there had also been speculation about Karim Benzema’s departure, as the former Real star was not allowed to join his club Al-Ittihad’s training camp.
With his return to Europe, Henderson, who has been given the number 6 shirt at Ajax, wants to continue to recommend himself for Euro 2024, although the 33-year-old was also nominated for all of the Three Lions’ international matches during his time at Al-Ettifaq. However, playing his way into the limelight at Ajax is no easy task this season.
