Is Karim Adeyemi (20) following in Erling Haaland’s footsteps? A summer transfer to BVB is getting closer
It seems to be coming to an end after all, Erling Haaland’s extremely lively time at Borussia Dortmund. Regardless of whether the Norwegian leaves BVB in the summer, the club is continuing to work on signing another striker.
So Dortmund are still in pole position in the race to sign Karim Adeyemi, who is coveted across Europe – the German senior international, like predecessor Haaland, would come from Salzburg.
BVB sporting director Michael Zorc and his designated successor Sebastian Kehl are also said to have arrived from Salzburg during the current break in play, as TV channel “Sky” captured pictorially at Dortmund airport.
Adeyemi would not be a direct replacement for the then presumably changing Haaland, but is a type of striker who goes more into the dribble and looks for the penalty area with the ball at his foot instead of waiting there – more Jadon Sancho than Haaland.
The change of Adeyemi for Haaland, which therefore cannot really be 1:1, could be an indicator for a change of style in Dortmund’s game, which is currently already strongly tailored to the key player Haaland. And whether a high-priced new centre-forward will come in addition to Adeyemi is questionable – especially since BVB lost a lot of financial leeway due to the early exit in the Champions League and the spectator limits.
In Haaland’s absence, coach Marco Rose has already relied on several flexible top players, which his squad is quite capable of. With Adeyemi, this approach could work even better.
