Elias Seppänen takes pole position in the Landgraf Mercedes for Saturday’s race at Spa-Francorchamps – Ferrari and Lamborghini in immediate pursuit
Elias Seppänen from the Landgraf Motorsport team has made a perfect start to the second half of the ADAC GT Masters season: At the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, he not only set the fastest time of 2:15.923 minutes, but also beat the qualifying record set by Bernd Schneider in the series in 2015 by 2.581 seconds.
“I’m mega happy about my second pole position this season. It was a great lap and the car simply ran superbly. At the start on Saturday, the main thing is to get out of La Source cleanly in order to carry a lot of momentum onto the straight,” said Seppänen after qualifying, who shares the Mercedes-AMG GT3 with his team-mate Tom Kalender.
On Friday afternoon, the ADAC GT Masters drivers started qualifying for the seventh round of the championship in dry conditions. At the start, Sandro Holzem in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo2 and Aston Martin driver Chandler Hull took turns at the front.
In the middle of qualifying, Simon Connor Prim (Großschirma) in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 from Paul Motorsport managed to beat the record lap from the 2015 season for the first time. As the race progressed, the times at the front improved several times and the tension increased
In the end, it was last year’s champion Seppänen who set the best lap and contested the endurance race from pole position. Second place went to the Ferrari 296 GT3 from Emil Frey Racing, driven by the two Swiss drivers Alain Valente and Jean-Luc D’Auria. The top three were completed by Benjamin Hites and Tim Zimmermann in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 of the Grasser Racing Team.
The second Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Jannes Fittje and Finn Wiebelhaus (Haupt Racing Team) finished fourth ahead of Swiss driver Alexander Fach and Alexander Schwarzer in the Porsche 911 GT3 R from Fach Auto Tech. Tomorrow, Saturday, an 80-minute endurance race will take place for the second time in the ADAC GT Masters
