ADAC GT Masters Nürburgring 2024: Schumacher pole position in anniversary race

David Schumacher follows up his race win in Saturday’s race with pole position on Sunday – 40-minute sprint in the 250th ADAC GT Masters race

In Sunday’s ADAC GT Masters qualifying, the previous day’s winner David Schumacher (Haupt Racing Team) picked up where he left off on Saturday. With a new record lap, the 22-year-old secured pole position and thus the best starting position for the anniversary race in the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring.

“The victory on Saturday gave me a real boost. The track offered extremely good conditions, which meant that the times were significantly better than in the first qualifying session. I’m delighted to have secured my 250th pole in the ADAC GT Masters. Now we also want to win the anniversary race,” said Schumacher, who drives a Mercedes-AMG GT3 with last year’s champion Salman Owega.

In sunny conditions and temperatures of 16 degrees Celsius, the ADAC GT Masters drivers started the second qualifying session at the Nürburgring. The session usually started with a warm-up phase to get the Pirelli tires into the ideal working window on the 3.629-kilometre track.

Mercedes-AMG drivers Jannes Fittje and Schumacher were particularly successful in this, both beating the qualifying record set on Saturday. However, Schumacher’s time of 1:24.902 minutes was the measure of all things – 0.317 seconds faster than the previous record lap on Saturday. In the end, Fittje’s time was enough for second place on the grid.

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Elias Seppänen (Landgraf Motorsport) completed the top three. Swiss driver Alain Valente finished fourth in the Ferrari 296 GT3 of Emil Frey Racing ahead of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 of Simon Connor Primm (Paul Motorsport).

The 250th race in the history of the ADAC GT Masters will provide thrilling entertainment from 15:10. The successful premiere of the endurance race on Saturday will be followed by the next debut in the anniversary race with a 40-minute sprint. Excitement is guaranteed, as the drivers have less time than usual to assert themselves in the race.

The live broadcast on TV partner Sport1 starts at 15:00. Sunday’s race can also be watched as a free live stream on the ADAC Motorsport YouTube channel.
