Achilles tendon rupture: Stuttgart loanee Perea dealt a heavy blow

Stuttgart loanee Juan Perea was able to impress while on loan at FC Zurich in Switzerland, but now the Colombian has been hit hard by injury luck. The striker suffered a torn Achilles tendon at the weekend and will now be out for a long time.

Juan Perea, who came to Europe at the age of 18 to join FC Porto, had joined the Greek first division side PAS Giannina in the summer of 2022 from the Neckar and has made 19 appearances for VfB (one goal). However, he was unable to really establish himself at the Swabian club, which is why he was then initially loaned out to Hansa Rostock. He was a regular at the Kogge last season, scoring four times in 35 games.

However, after his return, there was still no place for him at the runner-up, so that his path led him from the east to Lake Zurich. “An absolutely sensible step,” as Stuttgart’s sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth explained after the announcement of the new loan. “I want to score a lot of goals and work for it,” the Colombian had announced, and he kept his word.

The attacker has been very convincing in the Swiss Super League so far: he has scored seven goals in 22 league games. However, he won’t be adding any more for the time being, as the 25-year-old suffered a serious injury at FC Lugano (3-0) at the weekend.

As the Zurich team announced, Perea suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his right foot due to a misstep without any contact from the opposing team and will therefore be out for the rest of the season. Stuttgart, meanwhile, confirmed that surgery will be performed soon.
