“A great club”: Van de Beek loaned out to Everton

He didn’t make it at Manchester United, but now Donny van de Beek is trying his hand at Everton FC. The midfielder signs on loan until the end of the season.

“I’m very happy and I can’t wait to help the team,” van de Beek told “EvertonTV” after his arrival. “It’s a great club and great players play here. I came here to help us climb up the table.” Everton are currently only in 16th place.

New Everton coach Frank Lampard has also played his part in the Dutchman now turning out for the Toffees. “I had a very good meeting with the new coach. We have the same ideas about football and he had a big influence on my decision,” van de Beek admitted.

At ManUnited van de Beek hardly made an appearance

In the summer of 2020, van de Beek moved to Manchester United for a 40 million euro base fee. Due to certain bonuses, the sum can still rise to 45 million euros. Since then, the 24-year-old has played a total of 50 games for the Red Devils in all competitions, scoring two goals. At ManUnited he is currently not more than a reserve player, in the league he only played eight times, always as a wild card and only once for more than ten minutes.

Game practice, but no option to buy for Everton

At Everton, the Dutch midfielder is now hoping to get more game time so he can prove himself at Manchester United again in the summer. The English record champions did not allow the Toffees an option to buy.

He will not feature in Saturday’s cup tie against Brentford, but will be available for Everton’s trip to Newcastle in the league on Tuesday.
