Less than a week before the World Cup 2018 begins, the warm up match between France and US featured a nasty incident where Giroud and Miazga clashed heads, leaving both with concerning injuries. Giroud required six stitches after the clash which saw the medical teams rush on to treat the bloodied players.
The US failed to qualify for the World Cup but Giroud will be devastated that he picked up an injury this close to the start of the tournament. The incident appeared to be completely innocuous, with the two players both attempting to reach the ball following a corner kick.
Mbappe scores for France
The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with young sensation Mbappe getting on the scoresheet for France after the US had taken the lead through Green. France will be looking to have an impressive World Cup campaign with a very strong squad this time. With stars like Varane, Untiti, Kante, and Griezmann all going into the tournament after good seasons, the odds are looking good for the French national team to do well in Russia World Cup 2018. Nabil Fekir will be a player with a lot to prove, following his reported collapsed move to Liverpool. Mbappe and Pogba are other talents with something to prove at this World Cup.
Giroud hoping for swift recovery
Giroud made a surprise switch from Arsenal to their rivals Chelsea this year and this had put him in good stead to stake a claim for a starting position in Russia. Hopefully he will still be able to play in the first game against Australia on 16 June, as he has a history of popping up and scoring at the most important moments. The nasty clash of heads maybe looked worse than it actually was and a few stitches should not prevent Giroud and his French team mates from doing well.
