UEFA rules: Frankfurt get off with probation after pitch disturbance

Eintracht Frankfurt must play their next home game in a European competition without spectators – however, the Europa League winners got their punishment suspended.

UFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has ruled that Eintracht Frankfurt must play their next home match in a European club competition in camera.

However, this will not mean that the Champions League opener in front of a home crowd will fall through. The penalty was suspended for a period of two years. In addition, a fine of 80,000 euros was imposed.

The verdict was based on the incidents in the semi-final against West Ham United, when Hesse supporters stormed the pitch immediately after the match. In addition, the supporters threw objects and burned pyrotechnics.

Eintracht also won the final against Glasgow Rangers on 18 May (5:4 i.E.). As reigning Europa League winners, they will compete in the Champions League next season.
