Ruud reaches final – climate activist causes upset

Casper Ruud won the semi-final of the French Open. But the match did not go smoothly. The reason was a young woman who got stuck at the net – and was carried off the court.

Casper Ruud is the first Norwegian to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament and challenges Rafael Nadal in Paris. The 23-year-old world number eight beat Croatia’s Marin Čilić 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in the second semi-final of the French Open on Sunday and will face the record Major winner from Spain.

Activist causes a stir

The match was interrupted for more than ten minutes. An environmental activist had chained herself to the net. She ran onto the Court Philippe Chatrier during the match between Casper Ruud (Norway) and Marin Čilić (Croatia) on Friday evening.

The woman was wearing a T-shirt with the words “We have 1028 days left”.

The match had to be interrupted in the third set, both players left the court for ten minutes. Earlier, German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) had to retire against Rafael Nadal (Spain) after badly twisting his ankle.
