Rio de Janeiro – 18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz has won the Rio Open and become the youngest winner of an ATP 500 tournament. Alcaraz beat Diego Schwartzman of Argentina 6-4, 6-2 in the final in Rio de Janeiro.
Previously, Jannik Sinner (Italy) had been the youngest winner of an ATP 500 tournament with his success in Washington 2021.
At the Rio Open in 2020, Alcaraz had also won his first match on the ATP Tour as a 16-year-old. At the time, he was ranked number 406 in the world. Now he is on the threshold of the top 20.
