Between title race and disappointments – intermediate standings in the LEC Spring Split

On 14 January, the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) started into the new season. After eleven games played, favourites have emerged. Who was convincing and who still needs to improve?

This year’s LEC has shown that anyone can beat anyone, especially on the last two match days. After starting the new season with nine wins, Rogue lost their last two games. They were beaten by Misfits Gaming and even by Astralis, who are currently bottom of the table.

G2 Esports are in the mix for the top of the table

This weak phase ensured that the pursuers around G2 Esports could catch up with the top of the table. For the team with the German top laner Sergen ‘BrokenBlade’ Çelik, the start of the season was successful.

The organisation is currently in second place in the rankings with an interim result of 8-3 and shares this with Fnatic. However, the last duel between the two opponents was won by G2 Esports.

Team BDS having trouble getting started

The engine at Team BDS, on the other hand, is not running quite as smoothly. Having made headlines some time ago when they acquired the LEC starting spot from FC Schalke 04 Esports for €26.5 million, the team are still struggling to find success this season.

With just three wins and eight defeats, the selection is currently in second-last place. Most recently, they suffered four defeats in a row. The team around former Schalke players Ilias ‘NUCLEARINT’ Bizriken and Dino ‘LIMIT’ Tot will have to improve a lot if they want to reach the play-off places.

The next LEC fixture kicks off as early as this Friday, 18 February, at 6pm. G2 Esports will play SK Gaming, while Team BDS will face Vitality. The group phase runs until 6 March, after which the knockout phase is scheduled to start on 25 March. The final will take place on 10 April.
