Novak Djokovic buys biotech company

For weeks, the entry scandal surrounding the unvaccinated tennis superstar kept the sports world on tenterhooks. Now Novak Djokovic is investing in research – to fight Covid-19.

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, who has not been vaccinated against Covid-19, has acquired Danish biotech company QuantBioRes. He has bought about 80 per cent of the shares, company CEO Ivan Loncarevic told Reuters news agency. QuantBioRes wants to develop a medical treatment against Covid-19. Currently, about eleven people are working on it in Denmark, Australia and Serbia. Loncarevic did not want to say how much Djokovic invested.

It is a curious new development surrounding the world number one: Djokovic had recently made headlines because he was refused entry to Australia (read more on the subject here). The 34-year-old defending champion had wanted to participate in the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, with an exemption from the vaccination requirements.
