Crowd favourite Kyrgios drinks beer from fan

It was the big Nick Kyrgios show. The flamboyant tennis player made the crowd go wild in his first match at the Australian Open. And even after the match, he had the fans cheering.

Nick Kyrgios is in the second round of the Australian Open – and how. The local hero beat Liam Broady from Great Britain in three sets 6:4, 6:4 and 6:3. The 26-year-old not only proved to be the better player, but also put on his usual tennis show that entertained the crowd.

So, already in the second game of the first set, the Australian played a serve from underneath his legs that gave him a 2:0 lead. The crowd went wild – and it was to continue in the same way in the second set.

Again at 1:0 and 40:0 for Kyrgios, the crowd favourite unpacked the next special shot: a so-called tweener. A difficult shot in which the tennis player plays the ball through his own legs. Kyrgios also finished this tweener ball exchange with a forehand longline in his favour. The crowd went wild and celebrated their number one.

Kyrgios also unpacked the tweener in the third set, this time to no avail. The crowd didn’t mind, but cheered and cheered at every rally. Until the end. In the end, Kyrgios won the match in three sets, but his show continued after the match.

After he had already distributed several car programmes and taken photos with his fans, he was offered a beer by a spectator.

Kyrgios first smelled the drink and laughed mischievously. It seemed as if it was too much even for him to indulge in the drink in front of a running camera and quite a few fans. But with a slight shake of his head, he gave in and allowed himself a small sip – to the ecstatic delight of his supporters.

Whether the Australian and his fans will have as much fun in the second-round match may be doubted, to say the least. Then Kyrgios will play US Open winner Daniil Medvedev, who is the top favourite for the title after Novak Djokovic’s elimination.

So it’s possible that the days of Kyrgios shows are already numbered on Thursday – at least at the Australian Open.
