Former world-class tennis player Chris Evert has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The 67-year-old American made the announcement via Twitter on Saturday. She wanted to share her story to help others, the former world number one explained.
She is happy it was caught early and positive results from chemotherapy are expected, the tennis icon said. Evert topped the world rankings for 260 weeks during her career. She is a mother of three and was the first to reach 1,000 wins in singles. Her duels with Martina Navrátilová are legendary. She lost to Steffi Graf at the Australian Open in 1988. That heralded the end of her active career.
