Prömel and the planned brace – Gießelmann probably in the Charité

First luck, then almost a little bad luck – that’s how you could describe the course of the game of Union Berlin’s 2:2 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen from the Köpenicker’s point of view.

“I saw two halves: A weak first one from us. We really lacked everything we had planned and we were really lucky to go into the break with a 1-1 lead and we can certainly thank Andreas Luthe for keeping us in the game. Leverkusen were not efficient,” said Urs Fischer after the match.

“The second half was the way we – and I think the boys – imagined it. Courage, conviction, aggression and will were suddenly there and the movement without the ball worked,” continued the Union coach.

Prömel’s work is rewarded

The keeper, who was praised by the coach, agreed with his coach’s analysis: “Actually, it was a very good away game from us, even if we didn’t come in well. With the numerous counter-attacking opportunities, we could have won,” said Luthe, who had been very attentive several times in the game.

In addition to Luthe, it was of course Grischa Prömel who stood out for the Eisern, for whom the two goals were his first brace in the Bundesliga. No coincidence, but planning: “I had definitely planned to score more goals, after I had missed many chances in the first half of the season. You can definitely work on that. The coaches also demand that I appear in the sixteen more often,” said the Stuttgart native, who turns 27 on Sunday.

Femoral ligament blister in Gießelmann

The downer for Union in the draw at Leverkusen, meanwhile, was the injury to Niko Gießelmann, who had to be substituted midway through the first half. Fischer confirmed that it was a muscular injury in the thigh area. “He will certainly go to the Charité and it will probably be looked at more closely tomorrow. I hope it’s not that bad,” said the Swiss.
