FC Bayern started their preparation for the second half of the season later than planned. Without more regulars.
On New Year’s Day, FC Bayern had reported five positive tests, including goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman and co-trainer Dino Toppmöller.
One day later than originally planned, Julian Nagelsmann therefore assembled the remaining squad for the start of training at Säbener Straße this Monday afternoon and had to do without more regulars.
As the FCB announced this evening, Lucas Hernandez and Tanguy Nianzou also tested positive for Corona and are in domestic isolation as a result. Dayot Upamecano, Josip Stanisic and Leroy Sané were also absent, with “diagnostics not yet completed” for them. Stanisic had only tested positive in mid-November.
Kimmich’s comeback
Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka trained individually, Joshua Kimmich made his comeback on the pitch 47 days after the quarantine and subsequent Corona infection.
It cannot be ruled out that one or two players from the quartet that recently tested positive will already be available again against Gladbach because the tests were already a little longer ago. Manuel Neuer is definitely out, with Sven Ulreich standing in for him. For him, it will be the first Bundesliga match since 20 June (3:1 against Freiburg) 2020.
