Preußen Münster is playing a good round in the Regionalliga West, with first place within striking distance. There are to be intensive talks with coach Sascha Hildmann about an extension right at the beginning of the new year.
From a purely sporting point of view, it was a good year for Preußen Münster: In 41 league games, Preußen collected a strong 89 points, in addition to winning the Westphalia Cup and strong performances in the DFB Cup. Among other things, in the memorable first-round match against VfL Wolfsburg, which the underdogs won 2:0 after the Bundesliga club made a mistake at the green table.
Hildmann: “I have clear ideas. Let’s see what the club wants “
The upswing also bears the signature of coach Sascha Hildmann, who has been in charge of the Adler since the beginning of 2020. The 49-year-old is popular with the fans and the surrounding area and feels comfortable in Münster. However, his contract expires at the end of the season, and an option – for example, in the event of a possible promotion to the 3rd Division – was not built into the contract. Hildmann, however, makes little secret of the fact that he can imagine continuing the joint collaboration: “I have clear ideas. Let’s see what the club wants,” says Hildmann.
And the club, in the person of Peter Niemeyer, is also sending positive signals. The manager emphasises that he stands for continuity: “Because I believe it promises success.” It is true that Hildmann was still hired by Niemeyer’s predecessor Malte Metzelder, but at least outwardly there is currently not much to be said against extending Hildmann’s job description. Niemeyer now wants to “superimpose the ideas of both sides and consolidate the common path”. A first exchange has already taken place, and the talks are to be intensified in January.
These will not be the only talks that Niemeyer will have to face. The contracts of several regulars such as Marcel Hoffmeier, Robin Ziegele, Julian Schauerte, Max Schulze Niehues, Manuel Farrona Pulido and Dominik Klann also expire in the summer. In addition, the club is considering one or two new signings for the winter.
