Real Madrid is not happy about the fact that the draw for the eighth final of the Champions League is being redone in its entirety. Due to a historic blunder by UEFA, there will be a new draw this afternoon at 3 p.m.
The draw went wrong when Manchester United were suddenly linked to Villarreal. That was not possible at all, because clubs that met in the group stage of the tournament cannot meet in the eighth final. A new ball was then conjured up, after which Manchester City became the opponent of Villarreal.
Then Manchester United’s ball was missing when a draw had to be made for the opponent of Atlético Madrid, which made the mess complete. After the draw, several clubs complained to UEFA, which admitted its mistakes and scheduled a new draw. However, there were also a number of clubs that did not see a new draw, such as Real Madrid.
The leader of the Spanish league was linked to Benfica. However, that happened before the mistakes were made. Real Madrid therefore believed that the diptych with the Portuguese should remain and the draw should be redone from the moment it went wrong. UEFA thought otherwise and decided to do the draw all over again.
