After two draws in a row, Paris Saint-Germain celebrated another victory in Ligue 1 on Sunday evening. Kylian Mbappe hurt his old club in Paris.
During the previous two visits to the Parc des Princes, Monaco managed to stunt. That seemed to happen again on Sunday, when Sofiane Diop hit the post after just two minutes. Ten minutes later, however, PSG took the lead. After a foul by Djibril Sidibé on Ángel di María, the ball hit the spot and Mbappé made no mistake from eleven meters: 1-0.
Monaco then had chances to equalize, but did not have their sights set on sharp. Instead, it became Mbappe’s match. He received the ball from Lionel Messi on the stroke of half-time and placed it convincingly in the far corner: 2-0. For the 22-year-old striker it was already his 100th goal in the service of PSG. It was also his tenth goal in ten meetings with Monaco, the club where he received his training.
PSG also played with gold lettering on the back in honor of Messi’s Ballon d’Or, but the Argentine failed to claim a lead role. He shot two free kicks from promising positions well over. He came close to scoring twice in the last twenty minutes. At first his effort flew past the post, while his seesaw didn’t have enough effect to pass Alexander Nübel.
PSG’s victory was no longer in danger, as a result of which Mauricio Pochettino’s team increased the gap to pursuer Olympique Marseille to thirteen points.
