Jonathan Schmid took an important step on the road to his Bundesliga comeback on Saturday.
The SC Freiburg right-back was in the starting eleven for the second team’s away match against SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the 3. Liga on Saturday.
Schmid had contracted the coronavirus in September and struggled with more severe symptoms. Most recently, he had returned to parts of the team training. In the second half of the season, the 31-year-old Frenchman should once again be a real alternative for coach Christian Streich.
So far this season, Schmid has only made two Bundesliga appearances and one DFB Cup appearance. He last played in the 2-1 home win against Borussia Dortmund on 21 August.
