Freiburg: Worries about Nico Schlotterbeck

SC Freiburg are worried about Nico Schlotterbeck. The defender had to be substituted injured in the home match against Hoffenheim.

As he did in the 6:0 smash-and-grab victory in Mönchengladbach – where it was his debut goal – Schlotterbeck made an appearance as a goalscorer against TSG on Saturday. After falling behind early, the 22-year-old brought his team back into the game midway through the first period after a corner.

The fact that the game was lost in the end, however, was not noticed by Schlotterbeck on the pitch. The native Swabian had injured his ankle in the second half during a high-risk save against Hoffenheim’s Georginio Rutter in his own penalty area. After a long break for treatment, he was only able to leave the field supported by the attendants, and his brother Keven took his place.

An exact diagnosis is still pending. “We still have to take pictures of the ankle,” said Streich after the game. Schlotterbeck played in all 15 games of the season for Sport-Club, who play at Union Berlin on Wednesday and then host Bayer Leverkusen, and proved to be an absolute key player.
