In the Europa League round of 16, Eintracht Frankfurt must do without support from the Westkurve. UEFA sanctioned the incidents during the group match against Antwerp.
As group winners, Eintracht Frankfurt skipped the preliminary play-offs of the knockout rounds in the Europa League and reached the last 16 directly. There, however, coach Oliver Glasner’s team will have to make do with a handicap.
On Friday, UEFA imposed a fine of 30,000 euros on Eintracht and a partial closure of the stadium for the next UEFA competition match. The Westkurve is affected.
During the group match against Royal Antwerp (2:2) at the end of November, fireworks were thrown into the stadium, injuring several stewards. How many spectators will be allowed in the round of 16 (10/17 March) due to the Corona situation is still completely unclear at the moment.
Antwerp, who will not spend the winter in the European Cup, will also have to pay 30,000 euros for the misconduct of their supporters in Frankfurt and will have to do without fans at the next UEFA away game. UEFA said it punished “the setting off of fireworks, throwing of objects, rioting by spectators and damage to property”.
Among other things, a visiting supporter had thrown a Bengal fire into the crowd and seriously injured a stadium visitor. According to the Frankfurt police, he was investigated.
Royal must also contact Eintracht within 30 days to repair the damage caused by the fans.
