Glöckner: “We are better and more compact”

After the match against 1860 Munich, Waldhof Mannheim coach Patrick Glöckner was satisfied and praised his team’s consistency. Löwen coach Michael Köllner was disappointed and lamented the wind conditions.

With the 3:1 win in Munich Mannheim moved back into second place in the table, four points behind leaders Magdeburg. Coach Glöckner was satisfied at the post-match press conference: “It was a wild game with two different halves. We played a good first 45 minutes, which was certainly our best performance of the season. But of course it was clear that the Munich team would not be satisfied with the 0:2 at the break. But my team fought and fired into every ball and then made it 3-1 at the end.” Martinovic had ensured the decision with said goal in the fourth minute of injury time, the striker crowning his strong performance.

Mannheim “better and more compact “

Gloeckner was also pleased with the general condition of his team: “I’m pleased that the way the boys work remains the same.” The fluctuations in performance from last season have been eliminated, and the team is “better and more compact”. This is also reflected in the second place in the table.

1860 coach Köllner expressed disappointment. “We wanted to follow up today after the two wins, but we didn’t manage to do that. We have to look to get the points back in the next game against Magdeburg. “

It had nothing to do with the players, it was the wind.

One big issue for both coaches was the strong headwind, which the Munich team felt in the first half and Mannheim in the second. Köllner in particular felt that this had a strong influence on the game: “You rarely experience such contrasting halves. I don’t think Mannheim were so strong in the first half and we were so bad and then vice versa,” said the 51-year-old. “That certainly had nothing to do with the players, but was down to the wind.” Nevertheless, he said, even irrespective of that, they had neglected basic goals in the first half such as intensive tackling.

Next task: Magdeburg

The next tough task awaits 1860 this weekend, as they host the league leaders from Magdeburg. Should they manage a surprise victory, they would be doing Waldhof a big favour. With a win against Wiesbaden, Mannheim could move to within one point of the leaders.
