In Bochum, Kevin Schade was in the starting eleven for SC Freiburg for the third time this season. But even in his tenth Bundesliga appearance he hoped in vain for his first scoring point.
Kevin Schade was in no mood to celebrate on the evening of his 20th birthday. When he came home from the 1:2 defeat in Bochum, he unwrapped presents, watched TV and then went to bed, as he told in a video interview for the club website. “I was down in the dumps, even though I was starting. “ For the third time this season, the striker got to start from the beginning. “A few things I have to learn, as you saw, and a few things were good,” said the U21 international, who extended his contract with Sport-Club ahead of schedule a few days before the away game.
In Freiburg’s 4-4-2, he played on the right offensive position and was also able to get through a few times on the dribble, but his finishes were too harmless. VfL keeper Manuel Riemann did not have to show any of his sometimes spectacular saves against his two headers in the opening phase, but he did fend off a shot by Schade from close range shortly before the break. In the second half, Schade took the free-kick that led to Philipp Lienhart’s goal, and he also set up a great chance by Lucas Höler.
The November blues are nothing new
The SC youngster, however, continued to wait for his first scoring point in the Bundesliga. In this respect, his colleagues did not fare any better on Saturday either, despite many completions and chances. “I’ve rarely experienced such an undeserved defeat either “, said Schade. Christian Streich had previously spoken of the “most unjust defeat” as a coach in the Bundesliga. In Bochum, the Sport-Club also lost for the first time this season after taking the lead. The fact that it was the third defeat in a row, after ten previous unbeaten games, also weighed on the mood of the Freiburgers. However, the November blues are nothing new for them: In the past 21 games this month, SC have won only twice, otherwise there have been six draws and 13 defeats.
So it should come in handy for Freiburg that November is now over and they are guests in Mönchengladbach on the first weekend in December. Schade wants to “tick off the past and look ahead”, and “above all, play a good game”.
