Daniel Ginczek was allowed to play again. The 30-year-old striker is not only judged by his qualities on the pitch at VfL Wolfsburg by coach Florian Kohfeldt.
With just a few minutes left, Daniel Ginczek didn’t pull off anything big on the turf at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. The disappointment about the 0:2 in Sevilla certainly prevailed for the joker, for whom the game was nevertheless something very special. At the age of 30, the striker celebrated his debut in the Champions League. A game in the statistics that he may one day see as a small compensation for the many months in rehab that he has had to cope with so often in his career so far. Now Ginczek is largely fit – but in sporting terms he plays only a minor role.
The few minutes in Spain meant the third appearance of the season for the attacker, who had previously only been substituted twice in the league, where he can boast 13 minutes of action this year. Despite being physically unfit in his final Wolfsburg contract year, he is miles away from the goal of finally being able to play 34 games this season. Nevertheless, new coach Florian Kohfeldt, who is keen not to leave any of his players out of the squad, is counting on Ginczek. Even if he is unlikely to be on the pitch for long.
Kohfeldt on Ginter’s special quality
“I had a good conversation with Ginni “, reports the coach. “About what I expect, how I see his role in the team. “ And that’s where the hitman has another special quality. “He can give the team a lot with his experience, also in the dressing room,” says Kohfeldt. “He is an important contact person in the dressing room.” Ginczek’s word carries weight. “I value his opinion and have the feeling that we have found a very good way together there.”
Ginczek’s sporting path will rather rarely lead onto the pitch. The competition in the offensive is huge, and in January another striker, Bartosz Bialek (after tearing his cruciate ligament), is expected to be back. Nevertheless, team player Kohfeldt does not want to write him off: “Especially in situations where we are very close to the opponent’s box, he still has an incredible finishing quality. He is definitely an option for me there.” Perhaps also on Saturday against Borussia Dortmund, for whom Ginczek took his first professional steps from 2007 to 2011.
