Beiersdorfer: “Team seen marching, fighting, trying everything”

On his debut, Ingolstadt’s new manager Dietmar Beiersdorfer would certainly have wished for a better result. But the 58-year-old is already looking to the future – in which there will probably be personnel changes.

For FC Ingolstadt, Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Karlsruher SC meant the ninth game in a row without a three-point win. The promoted team was unable to close the gap on the relegation zone, and the first non-relegation place is still eight points away.

After a good first half, the Schanzers – like the Badeners – let up in the second half, and after 90 minutes the game truly didn’t deserve a winner
Despite the missed three-pointer, Beiersdorfer tried to take the positives from his first game as new manager: “Even if we didn’t succeed, everyone who was there saw a team today that marches, that fights, that really tries everything,” Beiersdorfer is quoted as saying on the FCI website.

But is it enough to try? Because in the 14 league games so far, there has only been one win and three draws. Conversely, this means: FCI have already lost ten times. Beiersdorfer is looking ahead after two weeks in office. However, the long-time professional and experienced official is aware that it will probably not work without reinforcements: “We will observe closely and then readjust at the appropriate time,” he announced.

But first it’s time to “regenerate “ and prepare for the next task. And this one is a tough one: Next Sunday, FCI will not only play host to promotion favourites HSV. But also at Beiersdorfer’s club of many years. Between 1986 and 1992, the native of Middle Franconia himself played with the diamond on his chest, from September 2002 to August 2009 he was HSV’s sports director, from July 2014 to December 2016 he was chairman of the board and from May 2016 also director of professional football.
