MSV keeper Weinkauf completes final training

MSV Duisburg can hope for Leo Weinkauf to play in the upcoming basement duel against 1860 Munich. The Zebras’ keeper completed the final training session on Friday

Weinkauf has been between the posts for the Meiderich side from the first to the last minute in all 15 league games so far. However, the 25-year-old suffered a shoulder injury in the 1-0 win against Viktoria Berlin before the international break. Although Weinkauf gritted his teeth and held out against the Capitals, he had to take a break afterwards.

But there is hope. Weinkauf, who had only been able to train individually, completed his final training session on Friday. This was announced by the third division club in the afternoon. This increases the chances that the regular keeper will be able to guard the MSV goal in the crucial basement duel with 1860 Munich on Saturday. A decision on this is likely to be made in the near future. To be on the safe side, U-19 keeper Max Braune will be taken along on the trip to Munich as backup keeper number three. Should Weinkauf drop out, he would miss a league game for the first time since his move in the summer of 2019. He made the maximum number of 38 appearances in each of the last two seasons.

Captain Moritz Stoppelkamp and defender Oliver Steurer also completed final training without any problems and are available to MSV coach Hagen Schmidt. Before the performance in the sold-out stadium at Grünwalder Straße, MSV are only in 18th place in the table with 16 points. However, the first non-relegation spot, currently occupied by opponents TSV 1860 München, is only one point away.
